During a phone discussion with a local travel agent, it was confirmed that Indian passport holders travelling to Thailand for tourism currently do not need to apply for a visa in advance. The agent mentioned that most of their recent customers travelling to Thailand have been entering under the visa-free scheme, provided their travel duration is within the permitted limit (Upto 60 days).
According to the agent, travellers are generally advised to focus less on visa paperwork and more on ensuring that their basic travel documents are in order. This includes carrying a valid passport with sufficient validity (6 months from Date of Travel), confirmed return or onward flight tickets, and accommodation details. The agent specifically highlighted that immigration officials may ask for these documents even though a visa is not required.
The agent also shared that they have been informing customers to complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) before departure, as this has become a key requirement for entry and helps reduce delays at immigration. Based on their recent customer feedback, travellers who had completed the TDAC and carried proper documentation typically experienced smooth and quick immigration clearance.
When asked about Visa on Arrival, the agent clarified that Visa on Arrival is no longer the primary option for Indian travellers, and in most cases, travellers are not required to pay any visa fee at the airport. However, for customers planning to stay longer or travel for purposes other than tourism, the agent assists them with applications through the official Thailand e-Visa portal, depending on the visa category.
Overall, the agent’s recommendation was that Indian travellers should rely on the visa-free option for short trips, prepare their documents carefully, and apply for an e-Visa only if their travel purpose or duration requires it.
